Executive Chef Saw Naing shares a unique passion for both Mexican cuisine and that of his Burmese and Indian heritage, and had a vision for how the two cuisines could come together in a deeply satisfying way. The menu is a heartfelt melding of classic cantina-style dishes like Carne Asada, Nachos Sencillo and Arroz Verde, joined by Burmese and Indian-inspired plates of Prawn Masala with saffron rice and sautéed Bloomsdale spinach, a Burmese Chicken Salad with peanuts, crispy shallots, mint, cilantro and tamarind and Albondigas, a variation on Mexican meatballs swimming in a savory red curry and topped with rice noodles. This exploration into where the flavors meet has also inspired our bar, with new cocktails like Saw's Masala Margarita with resposado tequila, housemade garam masala, fresh lime juice and a cardamom sugar rim.
Tallula’s is an ingredient-driven, neighborhood Mexican restaurant located in Santa Monica Canyon, just a few hundred feet from the beach. Co-Owners Josh Loeb and Zoe Nathan both grew up going to this location in its former incarnation as Marix Tex Mex, and long thought of doing their own personal project in this space. When the opportunity came up, they partnered with Rustic Canyon Chef/Co-Owner Jeremy Fox and they’re now fulfilling that dream.
