Position: Assistant Teacher (3 & 4 year old class)(Full time position 30-35 hours/week, Starting IMMEDIATELY)The Village Children's Center (“The Village”) is a developmental preschool where children learn through play. It provides an enriching and supportive environment for preschoolers, ages 2 to 5. The Village is affiliated with Riviera United Methodist Church and mirrors the church’s values of promoting love, compassion, justice and peace through personal, local and global projects. Our mission is to help parents raise children who show empathy and kindness towards all.We are located in Redondo Beach bordering Torrance and Palos Verdes. We are seeking a creative, HIGH energy and fun/loving Preschool Teacher for children aged 2 to 5. This is up to 30- 35 hours/week, starting immediately 

Required Skills:1.  Ability to plan and implement a quality program for children and parents. 2.  Ability to communicate with parents and children.3.  Ability to works cooperatively with all staff to coordinate program for the entire center. 4.  Ability to be well organized and plan ahead.5.  Ability to be prompt relative to scheduled work hours and assigned tasks, as appropriate. 

Basic Functions and Responsibilities:

  1.  Works under the general supervision of the Teacher to ensure the program runs smoothly.
  2.  Supports classroom teachers in planning and supervising activities. Meet weekly with teachers to coordinate classroom curriculum and evaluate individual children’s needs.
  3.  Initiates, plans and implements quality classroom programming for children.
  4.  Implements a balanced daily schedule which includes opportunities for indoor and outdoor activities, quiet and active periods, individual, small or large group play, and meeting personal needs (resting, eating and toileting).
  5.  Develops and implements developmentally appropriate activities. Indoor and outdoor environments are thoughtfully planned to provide rich, warm and diverse learning setting.  Choices are regularly available in, but not limited to, the following curriculum areas: science, art, sensory, diversity, small and large motor skills, language arts, dramatic play and problem solving. 
  6.  Maintains a safe and healthy environment within guidelines established by State licensing. Be knowledgeable of and always follow State-licensing guidelines at all times.
  7.  Sanitizes toys and materials
  8.  Attends Staff Development meetings as required.
  9.  Attends other meetings as requested (open house, parent conferences)
  10.  Meets with Director monthly, or on as a needed basis, to evaluate, plan, and problem-solve class and center issues.
  11.  Continues ongoing professional development.
  12.  Changes classroom boards regularly.1
  13.  Sets annual professional and classroom goals with Director.
  14.  With Center Director, participates in an annual program evaluation and goal setting process.
  15.  Complies with opening and closing Teacher responsibilities, as outlined in Teacher handbook.
  16.  Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: (Educational, Certification, etc.)

  1.  Minimum of 6 Early Childhood Education units to meet Community Care Licensing Teacher’s Aide Qualification requirements or higher. 
  2.  Health & Safety Training (CPR and First Aid)
  3.  Health Screening Report (LIC 503) and TB clearance
  4.  Provide shot records (MMR)5.  Mandated Child Abuse Training for LIC
