Job Description

The Nicholson School, a nursery school located on the north side of Chicago, is seeking a highly skilled, nurturing early childhood educator to join the team. The educational philosophy of the school is that children learn through play. The school follows developmentally appropriate practices and believes that all children should be treated with dignity and respect, allowing for individual differences. The goal of the school is to create an exceptional experience for young children where they feel nurtured, safe and self-confident as they explore the world around them.      Responsibilities

  • Assist the lead teacher in teaching the class
  • Support the lead teacher in establishing a classroom community that will benefit the overall healthy growth and development of the child 
  • Participate in building the school community
  • Assist lead teacher in maintaining preschool program facilities and environment
  • Other duties as assigned by the lead teacher or director

Qualifications

  • BA in early childhood education a plus. 
  • Credentials in full compliance with DCFS licensing guidelines
  • Warm, friendly personality, able to relate well to young children, parents and staff
  • Must be immunized
  • Excellent oral communication skills 
  • Excellent observational skills 
  • Able to handle issues with children with respect and compassion
  • A team player

The Nicholson School was founded by a mom to honor her grandmother, Novella Nicholson, a strong woman who worked both inside and outside of the home, raised three children and always wanted to be an educator of young children. While Novella's dream was never realized, she passionately believed that a well-educated child is capable of wonderful things.
