Job Description

Position Title: Youth Bus Driver

Department: Youth, Teen, Sports & Camp

Classification: Non-exempt

Supervisor: Youth, Teen, Sports & Camp Director

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. Position Summary

The Driver is responsible for the health, safety, and education of children, parents and families. The Responsibilities include performing duties necessary for safe transportation of Youth & Teens from school to the AJCC and from the AJCC to field trips.

Essential Position Responsibilities

  • Pick up and/or drop off of children from/to school or other sites. Driving JCC trips with both children and adults
  • Direct care and supervision of children
  • Attending meetings deemed necessary by supervisor.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, Jewish holidays, traditions and life cycle events
  • Maintain the highest quality of courtesy, friendliness and service excellence toward members, visitors and other staff. All employees will participate in AJCC Staff training as scheduled
  • Reacts to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned. General responsibilities of all AJCC staff include participation in staff meetings, building tours for prospective members, participation in programs or events as required or other staff team functions
  • Conducting daily pre-ride safety check of van/bus
  • Consulting with supervisor regarding schedule and route on a daily basis
  • Following all safety protocol when transporting passengers
  • Informing supervisor in writing if van/bus needs gas or other maintenance
  • Understand and support the AJCC’s mission and values
  • Work effectively with all staff members
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned


  • Ability to manage large groups of people with varying needs
  • Ability to follow specific directions
  • Ability to remain calm when driving in heavy, fast-moving, or stop-and-go traffic and dealing with passengers at the same time
  • Ability to remain organized while managing multiple details
  • Ability to communicate effectively

Education, Experience and Requirements

  • High school graduate preferred
  • Appropriate CDL Passenger Endorsement to drive passengers
  • Prior professional experience

Supervisory Responsibilities

No supervisory responsibilities required.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the Driver is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, and talk, hear and see. This person is required to stand and move about the entire building and grounds, as well as off-site areas. Due to the nature of the job, it is necessary to be able to pick up to 45 pounds and navigate both classrooms and playground. Specific vision abilities required for this job are as necessary to maintain a driver’s license.

Work Environment

Primarily the Youth wing is comprised of offices, classrooms and playground. Noise level, toys on the floor and clutter are normal to child care environments. Some programs and responsibilities will occur in other parts of the campus or at off-site venues not owned or under the control of the JCC. This position will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions and move regularly from inside to outside.
