We are a not-for-profit, teacher and parent founded K12 micro-school for gifted children. We are looking for an experienced teacher, to work full OR part time (you choose) with children mostly ages 6-12, starting this January. The position and the hours can be very flexible - you can choose between full time or as little as just 1 hour a week. This teacher will have a large amount of planning time and prep time. Our dream teacher has an ELA certification for K12 and college experience as well, some background in special ed or psychology, and is excellent in differentiation, with at least 5 years of experience. Our student teacher ratios are no greater than 10-1. Ideally, our ELA teacher is able to teach kids through thematic units based on science or history topics.
We have normal school hours during the daytime, however we also have opportunities for people to work during the evening and weekend hours, because we are running enrichment classes during the weekends and evenings. College students, retired teachers, and stay at home parents are also welcome, as long as you have teaching credentials and experience. Must be interested in working in a nimble and creative start-up environment. We are a school unlike any other in the area! Illinois teaching certificate not required for this year, but we will need this in September.
Specifically, we are looking for highly qualified language arts / ELA instructors, learning specialists, composition/writing instructors, someone to run our Odyssey of the Mind team and our civics class, math specialists, or to even teach Spanish and Mandarin.
Chicago is the only city in the top 5 largest metro areas without a gifted private option in the city proper. Chicago also lacks an option for HG and PG students, and something that would be more flexible and inclusive to allow part time enrollment and to meet other gifted needs. Something where everyone has a voice, where social and emotional well being is placed above rote, and where there is a small student:teacher ratio to allow the teachers to focus on teaching in a creative, collaborative enviornment.
We have both full and part-time options including evenings and weekends. We have 5 teachers on our 9-person board and we are teacher and parent founded Not For Profit.
