Habitot Children's Museum's mission is to nurture and enrich the lives of young children, their families, and the adults who care for them by providing an environment for early childhood learning and exploration, parenting education and community outreach. Staff and volunteers are essential to fulfilling our mission and we are eager to meet individuals who have a passion for this work.
Habitot is inspired by the belief that children learn best through play. Play, and environments that support children's play have been steadily disappearing from their lives. Play is widely regarded as the most effective way for young children to acquire school-readiness skills. The lack of play is especially true for the most vulnerable children - those living in poverty, homeless shelters, or foster care; children with special needs, and children with an incarcerated parent – all of whom Habitot reaches with dedicated outreach and inclusion programs.
Habitot's creatively designed, safe and imaginative space inspires young children's art, play and learning and has served more than one million visitors since opening in 1998. More than a place to entertain, Habitot's hands-on, thematic exhibits, Art Studio, and year-round classes, camps and cultural events rely on well-researched educational strategies that build young children's STEM knowledge, early literacy, and important social skills. The goal is to help our community's children reach their potential.
