BAY-Peace: Better Alternatives for Youth supports and empowers Oakland youth to transform militarism and other forms of violence through youth organizing and artistic resistance.
Our youth leadership development program consists of five components: Healing and Transformation, Political Education, Youth Organizing, Social Justice Vocational Development & Liberation Arts.

  • Demonstrate strong facilitation, speaking, computer and writing skills (multimedia is a plus!)

Program Coordinator Responsibilities:

  • Develop the leadership of youth interns by mentoring them in taking creative action for better alternatives to violence and oppression in the community through social justice organizing 
  • Support the vocational development of youth interns by directly involving them in all aspects of running a small community based nonprofit, including decision-making within the organization 
  • Collaborate with other staff to facilitate political education, youth organizing and cultural resistance that is firmly rooted in the experiences of Oakland youth
  • Design and lead facilitation for three youth development programs:Liberation Arts and organizing classes; train & support youth staff and high school interns to lead similar workshops for their peers.
  • Share your talents in Hip Hop, Theatre of the Oppressed, Music Spoken Word and/or Visual Arts
  • Report on your work, including attendance, photos/videos, and written documentation
  • Share in completing organizational management and sustainability tasks, including fundraising, basic bookkeeping, community outreach, etc.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old, have a 2 or 4-year degree with relevant experience, and be able to provide recent TB, DOJ clearance, a driver’s license and clean driving record.  Oakland residency and Spanish fluency is a big plus.

—Experiencing interpersonal and/or structural violence including poverty, racism, incarceration, criminalization, police violence, and/or militarism.

The Program Coordinator Position is 20-30 hrs per week, at $20-25/hour.
