The Berkeley Public Schools Fund is seeking a part-time Communications Coordinator. The Schools Fund is a non-profit dedicated to enriching the educational experience for Berkeley’s pre-K through high school students. The Schools Fund’s core programs include Classroom Grants, Strategic Impact Grants, Teacher Fellowships, and the Berkeley Public Schools Volunteers (BSV) program, which recruits and places hundreds of volunteers to assist in classrooms, libraries, gardens and after-school programs.
Job Description The Communications Coordinator is responsible for communication materials and social media including monthly e-newsletters, weekly social media postings, twice-monthly blog pieces, website updates, and consistent communication with teachers and community members. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. This position is also responsible for designing, co-writing, and printing all Schools Fund collateral, including brochures, Annual Reports, invitations, and programs. General administrative and organizational duties include answering the phone, helping small batch and bulk mailings and assisting with several annual events. Schedule can be flexible.
Writing: Create and edit Schools Fund materials, including a monthly e-newsletter, brochures, blog, and an Annual Report. · Graphic Design: Design all Schools Fund collateral, including Annual Reports, brochures, invitations, programs, and all other branded materials as directed by the Executive Director and Board. Coordinate schedules and needs with print shops. Maintain and update graphics on the Schools Fund website. Ensure all materials adhere to Schools Fund Style Guide. · Social Media (SM): manage relevant SM site links and postings in the Wordpress website. Manage Facebook content, postings, friends, and advertising. Research new media tools, implement them into SM plan and organization sites. · Website: Maintain and update the Schools Fund website. Address any technical issues with developers, field concerns or questions from users, update information and graphics as needed, edit and create pages and forms as needed. · Events: Act as point person for questions regarding Spring Luncheon, Berkeley Half Marathon, and other Schools Fund events. Communicate with event sponsors and vendors as needed. Promote these events on various platforms. Attend events and work booths. · Film experience is a plus: Film and edit short video clips of Schools Fund-supported activities for the website and social media. Produce longer promotional films with assistance from Board and hired videographers and editors.
Help coordinate, plan, & execute events: Spring Luncheon, Berkeley Half Marathon, Principals Reception, Donor Appreciation Event, Teachers Reception, and other special events. · Spring Luncheon includes assisting the ED with preparation of invitations and program; communicate with Sponsors, Honorees, and Honorary Co-Chairs; prepare items for display (centerpieces, photos, boards, etc). · Track and organize Berkeley Half Marathon teams and fundraising. · Coordinate large, bulk mailings, including Annual Appeal and Spring Luncheon invitation. · Assemble smaller batch mailings · Answer or refer telephone. · Inventory items (including branded items, printed materials, and supplies)
General Technology Skills: Knowledge of and skill in using Word, Excel, Wordpress, Mac computers, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and use of Web-based applications is essential. Graphic design skills (including printing needs), pre and post- production video skills, basic coding (for Wordpress site), Salesforce, Form Assembly, and general IT trouble shooting skills are a plus.
