Sterne School is committed to educating students with learning differences and providing them with the skills and strategies necessary to reach their academic potential. Through a hands-on and individualized program that focuses on academic and social development, Sterne is dedicated to preparing its students for the challenges of life.
When Valerie Anthony, noted educator, noticed that a rising number of children with average or above average intelligence were not finding success in regular classrooms, she developed a curriculum of individualized remediation. In the fall of 1976, Anthony delivered this curriculum to ten students in the storefront rooms of San Francisco's Sunset District. The children, ranging in age from 7 to 13, were the first students of Sterne School, named after Anthony's colleague.
Now, 40 years since its founding with 180 students in grades 4 - 12, in a brand new downtown San Francisco campus, Sterne School continues to offer a highly specialized program in the Bay Area.
