Community Action Marin was incorporated in 1966 with an initial $40,000 Federal Grant. 1967, the Marin County Board of Supervisors designated Community Action Marin as the county’s official antipoverty agency, with a mandate to work to eliminate the causes and consequences of poverty in Marin County. Since then, Community Action
Marin has gained valuable experience in diagnosing poverty conditions and operating needed and responsive programs. Many successful local non-profits originated within Community Action Marin including the SF-Marin Food Bank, Ritter Center, the Farmer’s Market and Homeward Bound. Today Community Action Marin is Marin County’s largest private non-profit social services agencies, with over 270 employees, an active Board of Directors and many dedicated volunteers.
