You have found the right place in the Melrose, MA area…if you are looking for an exceptional, noteworthy and high-profile Early Childhood program… first center in Melrose to receive NAEYC accreditation… one of the first to be assigned a Level 2 QRIS recognition.
Melrose Day Care Center Inc. was founded in 1971 by a group from Melrose, including members of the First Congregational Church, ahead of their time, who were instrumental in setting aside space in the new church building for day care center, that would serve the whole community. Our Center cares for children 4 weeks through 7 years old. We are a private non-profit, non-sectarian organization that receives funds from parent tuition, the Department of Early Education and Care (Massachusetts), Bureau of Nutrition, Kappa Delta Psi of Melrose, and other charitable organizations.
The Center is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that is responsible for setting company policies, raising funds, evaluating program effectiveness and networking with the community. The Board has annual elections in June of each year at which time the current Board is either reinstated or new board members are added. Parents serve on the board, as well as community and church members. If you are interested in serving on the Board, please contact a Director so she can inform the nominating committee.
Parent participation in activities of the Center is strongly encouraged. From time-to-time, ad hoc committees will be formed by the Board of Directors, and it is hoped that parents will be actively involved in these bodies.
The Directors of the Center meet with the Board 6 to 8 times per year and more often if necessary. The Directors supervise the full-time staff, the cooks, part-time aides and volunteers.
