Floaties Swim School opened ten years ago when Mike and Karyn decided to take the plunge and start the process of creating what has now become an amazing family of swimmers, but the dream began many years before that.
Karyn met Mike in 2000 when he was a swim instructor in Pacific Beach and even then, his future plans included opening a swimming facility of his own. A former water polo athlete, Mike started as a private instructor by traveling from pool to pool hosting swim lessons at other people’s homes. In fact, Karyn named him the “floating pool guy,” which eventually translated to “floating lessons,” which ultimately evolved into what is now the Floaties Swim School. In 2006, Mike and Karyn expanded their business to their own backyard and wound up enrolling 150 students in swim lessons that first year alone! With a growing waitlist, they brought on another instructor and continued teaching students in their backyard pool for a full year and a half. Mike and Karyn are still grateful for patient neighbors during that time who enjoyed the activity and sense of joy the swim lessons brought to their Poway neighborhood.
When they finally opened their new facility on May 12, 2008, Karyn and Mike did so with gratitude for all of the amazing experiences and wonderful people they have encountered along the way. Although running a business can be challenging, they get up every day excited about what they do. Mike and Karyn have the joy of watching a 3 month old be submerged under water for the first time and are able to follow his progression until a few months later he is able to climb out of the pool by himself, jump in the water and swim with confidence. Karyn and Mike have a rewarding job that they take very seriously, knowing you are entrusting them with your most precious cargo! Mike and Karyn Morrill are pleased to be a part of the San Diego community and excited about their continually growing “Floaties Family
