Ladybird Montessori was created by Niki and Justin Foster. Niki is an accredited teacher in the State of Texas, who received her Bachelors degree in Applied Sociology, and received her Masters degree in Education from Texas State University in the Fall of 2013. Niki has her certification from the American Montessori Society (AMS) in the 3-6 environment from the Houston Montessori Center. Niki was an Assistant Teacher at Mariposa Montessori School in Austin from 2007-2009. Niki was a Kindergarten Teacher for AISD from 2009-2013. Niki loved her time spent working for AISD, but the Montessori philosophy to teaching has a draw and pull on her heart. Justin earned his Bachelors of Science in Psychology at Texas State University and also earned a Masters degree in Communication Studies at Colorado State University, where he taught public speaking to undergraduates.
Niki and Justin want to bring the Montessori approach to Buda, TX. The Montessori approach views the child as one who is naturally eager for knowledge and capable of initiating learning in a supportive, thoughtfully prepared learning environment. It is an approach that values the human spirit and the development of the whole child—physical, social, emotional, cognitive. (American Montessori Society)
They will also incorporate Permaculture, with a "Texas twist, into the practices and environment of Ladybird Montessori. Permaculture is an ecological design system for sustainability in all aspects of human endeavor. It teaches us how to grow our own food, restore diminished landscapes and ecosystems, catch rainwater, build communities and much more.(Permaculture Institute)
They plan to use the extra acreage surrounding the school to incorporate gardens, a chicken coop, and a rain water collection system to help teach the students at Ladybird Montessori about Permaculture in Central Texas.
