Spanish Bay Area was started in 2005 by founder Luis Barnett. Barnett, a native Peruvian took ESL classes in Peru many years ago. During this time, he realized how difficult it can be to grasp a language with no previous knowledge. His understanding and first hand experience of the challenges learning a second language can pose was one of the inspirations for creating Spanish Bay Area. The primary reason for opening the business, however, was Barnett's observation of the job market in the Bay Area. Over the last several years, Barnett has observed a steep increase in the need for bilingual employees and currently estimates that over 50% of the jobs hiring in the Bay Area require applicants to be able to speak Spanish and English. Luis Barnett's knew he could help not only the potential employees for those bilingual jobs, but also the companies to ensure there were plenty of good bilingual candidates to choose from.
Today, Luis Barnett teaches classes to kids of all ages with a a dynamic and caring demeanor tat encourages quick and effective learning.
When asked what he is most proud of in regard to the programs as Spanish bay Area, Luis replies, "Anytime a visitor passes m y classrooms they will see the children laughing and playing and working hard to win the game. I am very proud to be able to make learning fun for all my students."
