Chicago Access Network Television (CAN TV) is a nonprofit community resource that gives every Chicagoan a voice on cable television. CAN TV is a public forum where Chicagoans can discuss issues of local concern as well as celebrate talent and initiatives. Training, equipment, facilities and channel time are provided to help Chicago residents and groups create programming for CAN TV's five local noncommercial cable channels.
CAN TV has been recognized locally, nationally and internationally as a center which effectively addresses community needs, develops diverse community involvement, challenges conventional commercial television formats, and moves viewers to see television in a different way.
CAN TV's current annual operating budget is approximately $2.7 million, with revenues from cable company payments, earned income and grants. There are 24 members of the Board of Directors. A staff of 35 full-time and part-time employees implements CAN TV's programs.
