LOUS was opened in 1988 by Laura “Lou” Gillespie. She satisfied two of the great loves of her life by opening a restaurant downstairs and a blues club upstairs. In 1998 the restaurant was sold to Don Tarantino and the Meyers family, who retained Lou as a consultant and friend.
In 2011 the restaurant was closed on October 31 for an extensive remodel. The stunning new building re-opened as Lou’s Fish Shack in March, 2012. The remodel focused on improving accessibility to both floors and utilized repurposed wood and metal to balance the historical style of the area with a contemporary feel. Large windows were added on both floors to take advantage of the high ceilings and the abundance of natural light.
Guest can now enjoy dining on both floors, as well as on the sidewalk to enjoy our temperate San Francisco weather. Full bars are available on both floors. Guests can dine in the upstairs dining room during the performances, or cocktail at the bar or in the cocktail lounge upstairs.
The menu features a variety of fresh seafood appetizers and entrees. We search local markets for fresh ingredients, focusing on local sourcing whenever possible.
