Our Story

Wine Down is a fun bar in SF’s SoMa neighborhood that serves awesome, local, wine, beer, and food.

Wine Down features a short, frequently rotating list from small, independent California producers. We pride ourselves on finding the best stuff at a good price, so we average 10 dollars a glass for good wine.

We choose to partner with people who put as much love into their products as we do to Wine Down.  We know most of the winemakers and brewers on our list personally. 

Everyone on our team actively helps make Wine Down a great place to work, with a focus on these key areas:

1. Shared principles. Wine Down is a values-driven business. Our Guiding Principles outline how we work together, and how we relate to our guests, our community, and our suppliers. Team members share these values and contribute to making them stronger.

2. Good judgment.  We believe in and trust each other’s ability to: act in Wine Down’s best interest; make wise decisions despite ambiguity; differentiate between what we are and are not trying to do and what must be done well now versus what can be improved later. We encourage everyone to learn, ask questions, and help us continue to make Wine Down a better place.

3. Taking responsibility.  Being successful at Wine Down means taking responsibility for what goes on around us—our own work, the environment, the quality of our drinks, food, service, and our community. If something is not right, each of us is committed to acting to help improve it. We don’t make excuses, and we don’t blame others. Responsibility means, quite simply, doing what we said we were going to do when we said we were going to do it.

4. Proactivity. At Wine Down, we believe positive change starts with each of us, and we’re all committed to taking a proactive role in the business. When we see a guest in need, we help them. When there’s an issue, we work quickly to resolve it. We don’t wait for someone else. Make decisions that will help our guests and improve the Wine Down experience.  Think independently and act swiftly to make things right.    

5. Fun. At the end of the day, we work at a bar. We all agree that awesome wine and beer makes life more fun. So let’s not take ourselves too seriously, and have fun while we’re at it.
