The California Bicycle Coalition's mission is to enable more people to bicycle, for healthier, safer, and more prosperous communities for all.
Our goal is to double the amount of bicycling in the Golden State by 2017 and triple it by 2020.
Our vision is that one day soon, millions of Californians will ride bicycles every day. Every destination in your community, and every community, will be connected by a network of quiet bicycle boulevards, bike paths, and protected bike lanes. Your 12-year-old, your elderly parent, your friend who's just getting comfortable on a bike—all will be able to ride bicycles where they need to go. Our communities will thrive economically, and our streets will be safe, with few injuries and only very rare fatalities. California will be a national model for sustainable transportation. All Californians, of every ethnicity and economic background, will have the opportunity to choose to ride a bicycle. We are leading the way toward a new culture in the Golden State, where bicycling is comfortable and commonplace, and where it contributes to healthier, safer, economically stronger communities for everyone.
In working toward this vision, we harness the power, skill, and passion of California’s bicycle advocates to change laws, policies and behaviors.
Our policy team in Sacramento pushes our lawmakers to pass smart laws that will make our streets safer and more inviting. They work to get more funding for networks of off-street paths, protected bike lanes, and quiet bike boulevards. They push to make sure that bike lanes and paths serve every community equitably, and that state policies encourage bicycling for Californians of all backgrounds. And they push for better laws to protect bicyclists’ rights and make the roads safer for everyone.
The California Bicycle Coalition collaborates with our 16 local bicycle advocacy partners across the state to support them in meeting their goals and to represent them at the state level.
In thinking locally as well as statewide, we’ve chosen smart strategies to meet our goals. Learn more about the nitty gritty of what we do by reading our Strategic Plan and exploring Our Initiatives.
